Term 1, Week 4

What wonderful weather we had for Friday’s BBQ! I do hope that everyone enjoyed a yummy dinner and a great time playing – or chatting! – with friends :) Thanks also to all of those families who attended a goal-setting interview last Monday, we are all very excited about the amount of learning going on in Room 3 this term! One common thread that came from these interviews was the importance of being able to count both forwards and backwards before beginning to add and subtract – if you’ve been problem solving for years it’s easy to forget how important it is to be able to put all of the numbers in the right order :) Thanks to all families who are working hard at counting forwards and backwards at home – it really will make such a big difference when it comes to solving problems in our heads (instead of on our fingers :)).

And, once again, thank you to those parents who came with us to swimming last Thursday – do come again!

This week in Room 3 we shift our maths focus onto sequencing numbers, and we’re really going to be digging deep to get as much understanding as possible from our reading. We’ll be writing plot, character and personal book reports, and once again we’ll get stuck in with some new waiata and poetry. We’re looking forward to illustrating our published personal profiles! We’re thrilled to get our library time back on Monday, and of course we’ve got our third swimming session on Thursday. Here’s to another awesome week in Room 3!

Junior Masterchefs!

A huge thank you to Joe's Mum who made these gorgeous chef's uniforms for Room 3's dress ups. Joe and Matthew are cooking up a storm in discovery time!

Discovery!

And we have the best time creating all sorts of characters with the dress ups!

Statistics

We're sorting all kinds of things for statistics, hair colours and styles, cats, jellybeans ...

Playtime!

We LOVE our playground. Once, when the seniors were all in class, we even snuck over and explored the SENIOR playground ...

Reading in Room 3

In Room 3 we like to read silently to ourselves, with our friends, and to our puppets ...

Term 1, Week 3

Kia ora koutou, salut le monde, and greetings everyone from Miss Driver!

First of all, it was great to see those families who attended the “meet the teacher” evening last week, and thanks to all who have made the time to attend goal setting interviews at school this week (tonight, 2pm onwards!). If you missed out on making an interview time, I will be in touch with you by phone to discuss your child’s progress and next steps for learning, as well as to catch up on any questions or comments you may have. Alternatively, I may see you at the BOT BBQ, this Friday night (at school) from 5.30pm, do come along!

Another very big thank you to those parents who came with us to swimming last Thursday – it’s a quick and casual affair (except for the walk :)) but we do enjoy cooling off on a hot day! We look forward to seeing you all again this Thursday if you can make it.

Further thanks for the OUTSTANDING homework last week – many children learned every spelling word, and some have even learned all of their sight words (flashcards) already! I was most impressed by the speedy basic facts recall! Several children have moved up reading levels over the holidays, so we are regrouping this week as some of us sample trickier books :) It was also great to see every single homework book and book bag in the box on Friday, well done team!

This week in Room 3 we continue with our maths focus on statistics and our intensive reading programme. We’ll be writing personal profiles, and role playing solutions for tricky friendship and playground dilemmas. We’ll enjoy new waiata and poetry, and we’ll be practising our drawing skills. Due to goal setting interviews this Monday we miss our library time this week – children may still return and issue new books during lunchtimes and before school :)

Welcome back in 2013

Welcome to Room 3 in 2013!
