PB4L

Hi everyone. This year we have started the PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning) contract. The PB4L team would really appreciate it if you followed this link to their blog and complete the survey. Teaching staff have already done it and they are now looking for community voice. It is super quick so please take a couple of minutes and take part. Thanks

Hockey Coaching

Hockey today was loads of fun! Room 1 and 3 worked together to develop our hockey skills through some fun games. Dribbling a hockey ball is challenging. Lucky that challenging activities help our brains grow!

Buddy Reading

Today we invited 17 students from our buddy class Kowhai to come over so we could reread our guided reading book. They helped us with any tricky words. It is really good to practise our reading with a buddy! Thanks Kowhai!

Statistics/Probability

Today we looked at what shoes we wear in Pohutukawa. We had a chat about different features on shoes and then we made up five categories! We thought Velcro would be the most popular and we were right!!

Food for Thought

Today we had our first session with Reta. We had to organise food into everyday and sometimes food groups. Then we went and moved our bodies to help us be healthy! On Monday we talked about what a great lunch is and tried some yoga. Healthy body, healthy mind!

Assembly Item Term 1

Here is the video from our assembly item today.  Hopefully this one is easier to hear!  There are louder bits and quieter ones so be ready to change the volume.

The class came up with what they wanted to talk about and what they would say.  They did really well organising their ideas and information.

We have learnt we really do need to be quiet in the back ground when recording and speak loudly and clearly for the camera.

Miss Fitchett has learnt to test it in the hall herself before the big day!

We learn from our mistakes!

Learning Through Play

This week our reading rotation changed format.  Rather than going through a set of tasks chosen by the teacher, students can choose from a number of learning through play stations.  While this is happening students are pulled out to work with the teacher one on one or in groups.  During the two days we have had it going it has been extremely successful!  Students are managing themselves and making good choices about where they can focus their time.  Some students chose to work alone, some chose to work with one other and others where in big groups.  It was great to hear the conversations around the room and see the different way people chose to use the same equipment.  This seems like a really positive change to our programme!

Sharing Week 4

This week our chatter groups shared news from home again.  Those people that didn't bring anything shared personal news instead.  Everyone takes a turn to talk and asks if there are any questions.  Roman came up with the great idea to ask if anyone had any more questions to check if his turn was finished.

Sign Language

We are learning to sign red.
 Cathy showing us green.
Charlie remembering and sharing how to sign orange.
Playing the colour game with Cathy.

We are learning sign language this term with Cathy.  So far she has been super impressed with how well lots of our class remember different signs from kindy lessons.

We have learnt to say and understand good morning, sit down, stand up, lets play a game, red, blue, orange and green.  She also showed us voices off and how to sign the National Anthem.

It is lots of fun and we are all learning lots of new things!

Finding Our Spelling Words

Today we had a short writing session after our sign language lesson so we practised finding and writing the words on our spelling cards. It was also a good chance to practise our super handwriting!

Maths

We are learning about different maths activities we can do in our classroom. We had to order numbers today from 1 to 20. Some of us even worked on going backwards! Maths is looking good!
