Keeping Ourselves Safe with Constable Garland

Yesterday Room 3 had a visit from Constable Garland as part of the Keeping Ourselves Safe programme. We had a discussion about what to do if we get lost and agreed that we would look for a person in a uniform - although please see our class brainstorm from Monday, on the wall by the class time table, to check what each of us said at first. It would be super if we could each have a chat about what to do in this situation with our families as well as at school. Are you happy that your child would make safe choices in this situation?

We also practised being "lost" and telling Constable Garland our name, address and phone number. Some of us were able to do this well, and some of us still haven't memorised these. How can a stranger (even a police person) help us to get in touch with our families or to get home if we can't remember our address and phone number (or even our last name)? We are practising writing these details each day in class, but PLEASE (for our own safety :)) help us to remember them by practising (out loud) with us at home. You could even stand outside the house with us and show us the number on the letter box. You could help us to look for details that we could use if we were trying to describe where we live - what colour is the house, the roof, the door, the fence/hedge/wall, the letter box? One storey or two? What's in the garden? Big trees? Rocks? Flowers? Native plants? Is there a garage? Do we know who the neighbours are? Other friends on the street? What is in our neighbourhood (a school, supermarket, dairy, park, swimming pool ...)?
